What COE Renewal Actually Means
Your COE gives your bike road rights for a fixed term (typically 10 years from first registration). At expiry, you have three options:
- Renew for another 5 or 10 years, paying the Prevailing Quota Premium (PQP) at the time
- De-register and scrap or export the bike, potentially recovering a PARF rebate if still within the eligible window
- Sell before expiry, letting the new owner decide
When Renewing Makes Sense
- The bike is mechanically sound
- You’re attached to it, or it’s a model getting hard to find
- PQP is reasonable versus a comparable used bike
- You plan to keep riding it long-term
When It Doesn’t
- It needs significant mechanical work — renewing then facing a costly overhaul rarely pays off

- A new generation or facelift has landed — fast-moving tech can make the current generation feel dated fast, and resale value can drop with it, making renewal a harder sell
